The Rydir Summer Guide

Summer is for discovering somewhere new—or seeing a familiar place with fresh eyes. We asked the Rydir team to share a few of their favorite destinations, from coastal escapes to cultural gems, and gathered them here to inspire your next adventure. One commonality? Water!

Venice, Italy
I’m headed to Venice this summer. I’ve alway loved the ocean, not the beach - don’t love sand, but the ocean. That easily translates into the narrow canals of Venice. Water and being in a boat have always been a happy place for me. I spent countless childhood days on a boat. This will be the first time my youngest son and I are traveling just the two of us. I am beyond excited to rediscover the City with him. Can’t wait to explore the small passages, wonderful food, people watching, architecture and truth be told I’m a civil engineering groupie and Venice is one of the greatest examples.  We've booked the Venetian classic, Hotel Cipriani and honestly we are not going to have a rigid schedule. We are thinking coffee overlooking the Grand Canal, lunch overlooking the canals, walks over the canals and museums off the canals. You get the idea!

New Haven & Outer Island, Connecticut
Nat highly recommends a weekend in New Haven paired with a trip to Outer Island, one of the Thimble Islands. New Haven is rich with culture, from the Yale University Art Gallery to the Peabody Museum of Natural History, plus a vibrant food scene that punches well above its size.

A short boat ride away, Outer Island is a five-acre nature preserve donated by Elizabeth Hird. It's a place to hike, breathe, observe wildlife, and enjoy an unexpected collection of beautiful mid-century furnishings set against the backdrop of Long Island Sound. Little ones can enjoy catching (and releasing) crabs, seahorses, and little minnows.

Rockland & Camden, Maine
Rockland and Camden remain perennial favorites for a classic New England summer escape. Spend an afternoon exploring the Farnsworth Art Museum, hop aboard a Schooner Appledore for a sail, and then grab a lobster roll—honestly, it's hard to go wrong anywhere in Maine.
